BCS Android Development Via Juno (64 bit)

Of course you know I am a huge fan of Eclipse SDK Juno (4.2) so I wanted to produce a tool that was robust enough to handle most all my development platform needs.

I have just installed the Android tool kit in Eclipse Juno (64 bit). Now I can employ my IDE of choice (Eclipse SDK) to develop Android applications.

This is really fun stuff but it is also quite serious.

BCS Install Eclipse Marketplace in Juno (64 bit)

Of course you know I am a huge fan of Eclipse SDK Juno (4.2) so I wanted to produce a tool that was robust enough to handle most all my development platform needs.

I was interested in adding the Spring Source Tool Suite to my existing 64 bit Juno platform. I determined the cleanest way to accomplish this would be to install the Eclipse Marketplace. I found the plugin available in the Indigo updates.

I simply added the Juno updates (http://download.eclipse.org/releases/juno) to my available Eclipse libraries and proceeded to install the Eclipse Marketplace plugin.  The Marketplace is found under the General Tools tab.

Once the Eclipse Marketplace was installed reaching the STS as well as other software applications was a point and click breeze.

BCS c++ Source Code Examples

While I was surfing the web I came across this link that exposes several source code examples for the c++ programming language.

There are those times when an example is worth a thousand paragraphs. There are many examples within this page.

I currently use Juno Eclipse 64 bit for all c++ development. I have found this to be a superior software development platform.

BCS FORTRAN Source Code Examples

While I was surfing the web I came across this link that exposes several source code examples for the FORTRAN programming language.

The steam tables and a lot of other engineering goodies are in here. I also enjoyed the calendar routines available in this link.

There are tons of useful examples within this link.

I currently use Juno Eclipse 64 bit for all FORTRAN development. I have found this to be a superior software development platform.

BCS SWT Install 64 Bit Windows 7

SWT (Standard Widget Toolkit) is the software component that delivers native widget functionality for the Eclipse platform in an operating system independent manner. It is analogous to AWT/Swing in Java with a difference – SWT uses a rich set of native widgets. Even in an ideal situation, industrial strength cross platform widget libraries are very difficult to write and maintain. This is due to the inherent complexity of widget systems and the many subtle differences between platforms.

I have successfully installed the SWT in Eclipse Juno 64 bit. It is an awesome tool kit. I like the robust features that allow for the generation of some pretty complex automated solutions.

Be sure to install the examples and use the example launcher to get a good feel for the end user applications.

BCS CYGWin Install On Windows 7

Cygwin is a collection of tools which provide a Linux look and feel environment for Windows. Cygwin is a DLL (cygwin1.dll) which acts as a Linux API layer providing substantial Linux API functionality.

Several of the language compilers as well as a tool chain link are supported and made available via Cygwin.

There are several ways to download and install Cygwin. I initially downloaded the distribution from a site and installed from that site. I have found that many distributions are incomplete or contain errors.

It was not until I installed from a web download that I received a complete package and was able to make the Cygwin function properly.

You have to install the Cygwin path to the bin directory into the path variable for your system. That is the only way you can gain access to Cygwin’s features.

BCS Eclipse Juno

Today I had the opportunity to download and install Eclipse Juno (SDK 4.2.0). I was pleasantly surprised at the improvements made with Eclipse.

Of course for all my PhP and Java development I use the 64 bit version. There are some major development tools I use that do not support the 64 bit environment so I also installed the 32 bit version of Juno to support those efforts.

I am now programming multiple languages and dialects within the Eclipse environment. I recommend the Eclipse environment for your development efforts.

BCS MySQL Administration In The Cloud

There are those times when the MySQL server needs maintenance. There are several avenues of approach on how to accomplish this feat.

One solution is remote access of the server via the MySQL workbench. Setup for the workbench is a non-trivial task but it is possible with a certain amount of persistence.

Another solution is to install PhpMyAdmin on server and access the MySQL admin desktop via a web page.

Both of these solutions are available because I am running Ubuntu 11.4 on a cloud and full administrative access to the server. Other environments may restrict or not allow this level of control.

Of the two solutions I prefer the PhpMyAdmin installation. With this solution you cannot use the data modeling capability of the MySQL workbench. Is there really a need to model in the production environment? I perform all modeling locally then export my results to the production environment.
